@englebertslapptyback Hell yes, Strummer knew good music! Another one he turned Clash fans onto was Lee Dorsey (Ya Ya, Workin' in a Coalmine) as well as Bo and Joe (Ely). He was no music snob, and my music experience and record collection are all the better for it! I don't know if headlining bands get any choice in their opening bands anymore, but it's cool that Joe had open ears, and really, maybe even saved the record company some $ by digging up those guys(?)

Bought my first Bo Diddley album in 1962. 'Bo Diddley's a gun slinger'. Was quite surprised twelve months later he was found by others through the Rolling Stones. Though in the UK 1963 onward it was Chuck Berry the record buyers preferred. Must say I still preferred Bo's music.
