Blue Swede was first formed in 1973, when Björn Skifs, a top vocalist in Sweden, was looking for a band to accompany him during his concerts.[1] The band was originally called "Blåblus" (Swedish for "blue blouse", a pun on the word "blues") and featured Skifs singing the lead vocals. The band got their international breakthrough in 1974 with their cover of the 1969 B. J. Thomas song "Hooked on a Feeling". Released that same year on their album Hooked on a Feeling, Blue Swede's version was adapted from British pop eccentric Jonathan King, using his ooga-chaka ooga-chaka background on a version he had earlier recorded of the same song.[citation needed] "Hooked on a Feeling" was released in Sweden in May 1973 and in the United States in February 1974, and reached #1 for one week in the U.S. staying in the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 18 weeks.[1] The R.I.A.A. granted gold disc status on 28 March 1974.[1] The track also topped charts in Canada, Australia and the Netherlands.[1]

The group had a U.S. Top 10 hit with a cover of The Association's "Never My Love". Also of note, the group recorded a medley that combined "Hush" by Deep Purple and "I'm Alive" by Tommy James and the Shondells (not The Hollies' song of the same name), and which achieved its greatest success in Scandinavia.

On this day in 1977 {December 10th} the Addrisi Brothers' "Never My Love" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart for a three week stay, peaking at #80... It was written by the brothers; Donald and Richard... Prior to them charting with it four other acts charted; The Association {#2 in 1967}, The Sandpebbles {#98 in 1968}, The 5th Dimension {#12 in 1971}, and Blue Swede {#7 in 1974}... Donald Addrisi passed away on November 13th, 1984 at the young age of 46... May he R.I.P.

I know I'll probably get flack for saying this, but I actually prefer this version to the ones by The Association and The 5th Dimension.

For those wondering, the musicians are lead vocalist Bjorn Skifs, guitarist Michael Areklew, bassist Bosse Liljedahl, drummer Jan Guldback, keyboardist Ladislav Balaz, saxophonist-flutist-backing vocalist Hinke Ekestubbe, and trumpeter-flugelhorn player-backing vocalist Tom Burger.

This was released in 1974 and played on London's Capital Radio by the late and very great Roger Scott on his drive-time show. Thanks for posting - records like this are hard to find - great version !

Definitely an improvement over that dreadful remake of "Hooked On A Feeling".

I hadn't heard this version in years. It brings back a lot of high school memories. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting this great cover of this normally "so serious" ballad!
