On a crystal clear night in Eugene, Oregon in the late 70's, I turned on my AM radio. Picked up stations from Louisiana, Calgary, and Mexico, the last undoubtedly aided by 50,000 watts.

This song was a highly, personal biography by songwriter, Dave Alvin, ...singer Phil's brother. It's about those early years of the Alvin brothers, growing up at home with their mother, while their dad, worked on the road, frequently, as a United Steelworker of America, union organizer in the American Southwest. ........."One more midnight, her man is still gone.....the nights move too slow....she tries to remember the heat of his touch, while, listening to the border radio."
