You people need to relax. Black Box made great music. They hired some studio singers to do the vocals, which is perfectly fine for a DJ house-music group. Not a scandal at all. It's not like the girl in the videos was advertised as the main performer. It's not a Katrin Quinol solo tour. It's Black Box! They have every right to have a stylish sexy image in their videos and concerts. If Martha Wash wanted to be in videos, she should have kept her weight down. Anyone that grossly overweight has some serious character flaws. Sorry for being blunt, but that's the truth. Good voice, but not meant to be in these type of videos. If Martha was soooo damn good, why didn't she go solo??

I remember when Martha Wash's lawsuit over this chic pretending to be HER on videos and performances hit the media. It was a HUGE scandal, and started a whole domino effect which outed of groups like Milli Vanilli, Paula Abdul, and others of taking credit for a studio singer's work. In the beginning, they were denying it, saying she was just a hater, and crazy. But Martha had proof, and won a judgement against everyone involved.AFTERWARDS, they admitted they did it all in the name of "image". That this chic was just a model. The problem is they didn't pay Martha her due in money or print, and that's what sent Ms. Wash over the edge. Suddenly Martha Wash was being talked about everywhere. It brought her career back from obscurity in the 90s. To my knowledge, she's still benefiting from that whole scandal. She gigs in gay clubs around the world.

Shit like this is the reason there was a rule against miming in the late 60's and early 70's on UK television. Maybe it was a regulation that should have stayed around. You all know this skinny bitch don't even speak English!

The group enlisted Martha Wash to perform vocals on a number of tracks which, Wash was apparently told, were for club consumption and were not for mass-release. The album Dreamland was released in May 1990, and featured six songs sung by Wash, including the singles "Everybody Everybody", "I Don't Know Anybody Else", and "Strike It Up", which became major hits worldwide. Dreamland earned a gold disc in both the UK and the US and achieved double-platinum status in Canada[1] and Australia, where it spent eight weeks at #1 during early 1991. Along the way, it also spawned six massive hit singles, both on the mainstream charts and in the clubs.Martha Wash was uncredited on the album and singles, with Katrin Quinol lip-synching to the songs in public appearances. Martha Wash sued Black Box, RCA Records and then C+C Music Factory for performing vocals on their respective songs and not receiving due credit. These legal actions led to the legal recognition of vocalists who perform songs for other artists, including samplings. Wash received full vocal credit upon the single release of "Strike It Up", but the music video still featured Katrin Quinol lip-synching the lyrics. In 1993, the group returned with the single "Rockin' To The Music", dismissing Quinol as the group's image and using American singer Charvoni Woodson as lead vocalist and image, but failed to emulate their previous success. The group recorded their second album Positive Vibration, with Woodson. The album was released around Europe and Asia in different independent labels from 1995 to 1997. The album spawned four singles, including a cover of Odyssey's disco hit "Native New Yorker" which became minor hits in Europe. In America, they are best remembered for their early '90s singles, "Everybody Everybody", "I Don't Know Anybody Else", and "Strike It Up", their biggest hit in the United States, where all three of their hits are still heard on rhythmic radio and in clubs on a fairly regular basis to this day. Black Box remain one of the few piano-house groups to achieve mainstream success in the USA.

nowyourenraged2....You are very incorrect Martha was well known in the music business, had several hits with her friend as Weather Girls aka Two Tuns of Fun! Yes she was hired by Black Box for vocals. But Katrin (the skinny bitch) cannot sing live and to this day lipsync's whenever performing in person. They stated they didn't think that Martha would make a good front person for the group. If they liked her vocals they should have been required by law to put her out front. Otherwise you hire a skinny girl that can sing. Black Box attempted to not properly compensate Martha nor Loleatta Hooloway for their vocals. Why anyone in the world would pay money to book Katrin to appear is ridiculous, book Martha or Loleatte! At least with them you get a fully live performance. And yes it has to be pointed out that Martha was and is the vocalist for all but one of Black Box's hit singles because in this day and age someone will believe that skinny bitch is able to belt out a song like Martha does. And they would be wrong! Katrin in fact shouldn't be permitted to appear, she didn't sing ANYTHING on the records.

I gotta admit though, for most of the buying public Martha Wash wasn't a household name - which is why the whole 'is she singing it or not?' arguments lasted. I was 14 at the time and I loved their Dreamland album, despite not having a clue who Martha Wash was... I do now of course!

Martha Wash sang each and every one of Black Box's 1989-91 singles with the exception of Ride On Time, which featured a sample of an old Loleatta Holloway sample (kinda what got Black Box noticed). Katrin didn't sing any of the tracks - she was a miming (sexy) front woman. They did attempt to get her to sing during one of their tours (after the backing track skipped on one of their dates and the crowd wasn't too pleased) but her vocals were pretty weak.

Um, to be called a "singer" you actually have to sing, not lip sync, you stupid fucking ape.
