The true meaning is always lost in translation. And the bottom line is about the commercial factor to make more money, in all languages. The English version of "Brazil" is a beautiful interpretation of "Aquarela do Brasil" that still pays tribute to the natural beauty and the great people of Brazil. Completely agree with you, I'm not doubting the enormous artistic ability of Mr. Crosby and Miss Clooney. In fact both seem great singers. But I find it hard to enjoy such a beautiful song like "Aquarela Do Brasil" sung in English with the letter completely changed and therefore a different meaning. It's like sacrificing the beautiful original meaning of the song (and sounds too) just to make it more commercial. "Watercolor of Brazil for dummies" LOL... Greetings from Venezuela ;-)

Peli , Sorry to hear that this English version of "Brazil" bothers you, but you are absolutely correct that the English version is plastic and artificial. Nothing is better than the original Ary Barroso version in Portuguese "Aquarela do Brasil". English is not a Romance language like Portuguese, and Spanish, You have to realize that this was recorded by two of the biggest stars of their times, Frank and Rosemary. Enjoy this great international song no matter what language it's sung in.

I don't remember the LP, but when I was a pre-teen we had this song on the record, with Hindustan and I Can't Get Started With You on it. Now I can really hear the two different voices. Thanks very much for posting this, is great to hear it again.
