The trumpet player is Carl Fischer. The flugelhorn solo at the 3:10 mark is the original solo done by Freddie Hubbard.

I wish the drummer would HIT the fuckin cymbals, he's tapping them. Sucks the lifeblood out of it. Goddamn it.

It's just NOT at all the same song without Liberty Devitto. If you cant hear it, you're deaf.

Hi, allisonrl355 - I was actually THERE in 2006. He did some rehearsing & tuning before the concert. Lots of people at that concert. He sounded great. I felt like all of Rome was there. People who had colosseum tours had to do it in a hurry because Billy Joel concert took precedence. He hadn't performed in Rome for a while. I'm not from Italy but was on vacation there. It was perfect timing for Billy Joel to be there. And I really DID have limoncello earlier that day in Rome. Lovely drink! :-)

@sgtpepper1138 I agree that Liberty was amazing, as was his rhythm counterpart Doug Stegmeyer, both of whom are on the original recording. I've been listening to 52nd Street since I was 4 or 5 (30 now) so I'm very familiar with the original, which is simply amazing, IMO. This seems like a pale imitation, just lacking the soul and street vibe the album had. Still pretty good though.

@nicjimbass one reason is Liberty isn't playing drums. His style is so savage, he's like animal from The Muppets.

To me, this is nowhere near as grooving as the original recording. Not bad, but just too straight.

To be honest, I don't mind that it's in another key. It still sounds great but it's also a little bit of a variety.

Smokin' solo by Carl!

Would you rather he sing it badly in the original key - straining to hit the notes?
