Billy Joe shaver is probably the most underrated songwriter of all time. The lyrics in this song must mean so much to him, being as "the darkness" took his son Eddie from him some time ago. The addition of big and rich to this song makes it all the more epic.

I lost my step father one year ago today. One of the finest men I've ever met. Loved him very deeply. When I go to the veterans cemetery where he and my mother are cremated I take my phone and play this song for them. I know they would have really loved it. its a beautiful song, one of the most touching songs I've ever heard!
