One of the most beautiful, yet haunting live recordings that I've ever heard Billie Holiday perform... Here she is performing "You'd Better Go Now", backed by the Percy Faith Orchestra. The exact date of this recording remains a mystery, but it was sometime between 1945-1950.

Long live Lady Day!

This is from the 09 DEC 1956 radio broadcast of the ‘Woolworth Jazz Hour’ on CBS (New York). Miss Holiday also sang Them There Eyes. Lady Day’s studio version of this tune was recorded in AUG 1945, for DECCA. :I: Finkänslig 15 SEP 2013

Thanks for posting this lost gem. I love all of Lady Day's recordings. I think this one must have been recorded toward 1950 or later. She has the "rasp" of death creeping into her voice at this point. No insult intended. Her voice throughout her career expressed quintessential human emotion. This recording makes me both happy and profoundly sad, as only Billie's voice could accomplish. She was a master at sharing and drawing us into the spectrum of human emotion. God bless you Lady Day.

I've been listening to a 24hr birthday tribute to Lady Day on WKCR from New York. Sensational. For anyone really interested in the history of jazz, the hidden gems, new sounds and links to other terrific YouTube clips I can fully recommend subscribing to Marc Myers free blog.

You got 4 months on me. What I love about being old is that we've enjoyed all these great musicians before the younger generations. What a wealth of historical gems they have yet to discover and thanks to YouTube and contributors like matthewfallabel is just waiting for them.

Very nice indeed. Although Billie Holliday is at her best with a small combo behind her and not as much with a large orchestra. I also love the Maysa Matarazzo's version, very-very sexy and totaly different from this one.
