I take issue with this film being "a document to how drugs affect..." While Billie may have tried hard drugs at this time, she was hardly "affected". Taken on it's own merit, this film showed Billie near her prime in every way, still "stout" (she always got rail thin on heroin) and gorgeous, with an even more incredible voice (no hint of damage that would come later) In a perfect world, or even our "modern" one, this would have been the perfect time for "intervention" by loved ones to support a clean, healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, Billie had none, and was surrounded by syncophants and parasites.

wow, stunning to see them performing together.it's also a document to how drugs affect people so differently-Armstrong allegedly smoked marijuana every day of his life-and it only seemed to enhance his beautiful life and music. (plus it probably helped blunt the omnipresent racism of his day). Holliday's life of course, was destroyed by drugs, though her artistry shines throughout.maybe it's because he was just a happier person to start with, and she just wasn't.
