Billie Holiday performing "I Love You Porgy" on Granada TV's "Chelsea At Nine" February 1959. This was one of her last TV appearances before she passed away a few months later. This is videotaping would probably be one of Britain's earliest surviving B&W quad videotape recordings.

She's very attractive, contemporary in appearance, even by today's fashion standards, but putting the words in context, those surface things only make the tragedy of the song and the great singer more compelling.

Granada were renowned as one of the few companies who keenly archived as much of their programming as possible, right from the start in May 1956. Most of it was kept as telerecordings, but the Bernsteins were more than keen on the use of VT.

Why does every recording discussion have to be a contest to see who is the best singer. There are many flowers in a garden and they do not argue over which is the best. Billie's version is just wonderful. There is no "best" singer --they are all different

Escutar a Billie é viajar apenas fechando os olhos e escutando a sua inigualável voz.

She's my personal favorite, indeed, but if we're talkin who the best female jazz vocalist is, then that has to go to Ella Fitzgerald.

No one ever, can live up to the legend that is Billie Eleanor Holiday. She is the musical love of my life. No one will ever know how much I love Billie, her legacy, and her music. I could go on, but I'd run out of space. =*) 33333333333
