As I was on Youtube, I decided that listening to "Bill Bailey, Won't You Please Come Home?" would be a nice song to hear. I was shocked to find out that no one had posted it yet, so that's what I've done. Anyways, here is the info: Its words and music were written by Hughie Cannon (1877--1912), an American songwriter and pianist, in 1902. Arthur Collins (1864-1933) recorded it the same year, and it was a #1 hit.

Thank you for this amazing recording. In researching lyrics I looked at a music sheet and was amazed to learn there were verses to this song, which, sadly, have been dropped by all the musicians that covered it, from what I've determined. I wonder why? WIth just the chorus, it is too short. Astonished also by how old this song is. Written 1902!

This version and the version Aileen Stanley recorded in the 1940s is the only great versions of this song in my opinion. Arthur sang very great here. He had a swwt voice who is easy to like/love and he had a very great singing style. I really understand why he been theking of ragtime singers. He sang ragtime fantastic.

This song was actually written about my great great Uncle Willard G. Bailey known as Bill Bailey in 1902! There was a rumor that he liked the ladies but he was also married.

Hughie Cannon's classic... This is the original version, as far as I can tell. Lovely raw delivery from Arthur Collins. Fabulous pianola-sounding joanna, too. Totally digitally recorded... he used his fingers
