The precients of this song is remarkable. This was 1986 and this song, specificaly, spawned endless deritives including the entire Chicago industrial Wax Trax scene that came after. KMFDM, Front 242, Laibach, and the endless permutations of Al Jougensen and Paul Barker of Ministry to name a few. This type of industrial ruled the industrial-goth / darkwave scene in the late 80's to early 90's in the SoCal club /dance scene. This beautiful dark moment was utterly destroyed by the Detroit Techno sound that tranformed dancing and clubs forever with the ubiquitous ecstasy and 4 on the floor obsession.

If you think that searching for 'Big Black' produces sketchy Google results you should try searching for his next band, 'Rapeman'.

I saw Big Black in 1987 (I think- Halfway Inn, Ann Arbor, mI).. Anyways, Albini introduced this song by saying it was about "college girls who won't go down", it's one of the few quotes that stuck in my memory. But I think literally, you're right of course.

Been singing this in my head for the past few days - from one of my favorite albums of all time. I'm sure it's melting in the garage right now...Back when Albini was awesome.

Whenever I hear this song, I picture a super old lady whose filing her nails so fast that her fingers are just down to bloody nubs and there is blood all over the file... and she just won't stop, because she's reminiscing of her youth.

Dude, that's the best comment I've heard in so long. You just made my life worthwhile.

@lollipola totally correct in that they're harmonics distorted within an inch of their lives. I think Albini was using steel picks by then also.
