For me it wasn't the 90's. It was was the early 2000's, my third girlfriend, who came into my life and lifted out of this place. She stared into my eyes like no one I'd ever seen. For a time I believed I was in another universe altogether. And this was one of the songs she shared with me. I've never forgotten it.

It still floors me when I find myself strangely nostalgic about the 90s. This could be my favorite song from that era (!). The trip from "this time, this time, this time, is whatever I want it to mean" to "this time, this time, this time, is fine just as it is" still chokes me up. Melancholic, yet resolved.

It's in fact a sign of her songwriting qualities that very different versions of the same song all have a right in their own. I also like the Then-Again-Version & esp. the Spiritual Life Ibandan Edit. This song can be melancholic as well as uplifting...

Saw her at the El Rey Theater in LA during this tour. Beck opened for her. Fantastic show. Love you Beth!
