1937-8 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert.....

As the regular arrangment (with solos by Benny and Ziggy Elman) draws to a close, Benny senses the boys are getting an extra boot out of Fletcher Henderson's score this evening, so he flashes the sign to keep it going. Harry James gets up and Gene Krupa give him a solid two-beat platform and Jess Stacy takes over for two choruses. Finally the band come back with some fierce riffing, closing with the venerable, "Oh,not enough!" which Josephine used to play for Napoleon on her home-made virginial.....

..Notes by George Avakian

This has nothing to do with Carnegie Hall and was performed before their first concert there.

God Bless George Avakian for the correct order of trumpet solos  on this joyous airtake:first Elman, then James after Benny.Stacey closes out with a nice piano  piece. Krupa shows throughout why he became nicknamed "Father Time" by younger jazz musicians in the 1960's!

Que pena que não existem mais essas grandes bandas. Você ouve e não se cansa, pois as músicas são da melhor qualidade.

No Alfredo. The first solo is by Elman and the second in the extension is by James. Elman had a fuller tone. This is not from the 1938 Carnegie Hall concert. It's from a Nov 30, 1937, Camel Caravan broadcast. From Russ Connor's discography: "It seems to us that H (Harry), G (Goodman) and J (Jess Stacy) did set Hand's old rouser ablaze, but not until Ziggy had lighted the fuse."
