ben gibbard (lead singer of death cab for cutie and the postal service) playing "(this is) the dream of evan and chan" off the album "life is full of possibilities" by dntel (the other member of the postal service) live and acoustic on kexp. think it's okay to upload it as you can't buy it anywhere. if you want to buy the original song, buy the album or look it up on itunes (or wherever you prefer to download your mp3s). :)

lyrics:

It was familiar to me, the smoke too thick to breathe.

The tile floors glistened; I slowly stirred my drink.

And when you started to sing, you spoke with broken speech

That I could not understand, and then you grabbed me tightly.

I won't let go, I won't let go. Even if you say so, oh no.

I've tried and tried with no results. I won't let go, I won't let go.

He then played every song from nineteen ninety three.

The crowd applauded as he curtsied bashfully.

Your eyelashes tickled my neck with every nervous blink,

And it was perfect until the telephone started

Ringing ringing ringing ringing ringing off...

The Postal Service has been playing this on the reunion tour. It was their first encore song in Philly tonight. Having been updated a little, the song wasn't immediately recognizable. Great vibe, though.

It's my dream to see this guy perform live. I know that there are a lot of musicians out there with demure, sensitive voices that play gentle, emotionally tinged acoustic guitar music, and I'm not a fan of most of them. But somehow Ben Gibbards embodies the best of this type of music, capturing the reflective soul, fragility, and intimate-yet-alienated sensation that only art can make us feel. Ben is an artist. Listen to his solo stuff, to Death Cab, and to the Postal Service and you'll know.

KEXP usually has video's for all the live performances these days. Anybody know if they got this on video?

"Your eyelashes tickled my neck, with every nervous blink. And it was perfect, until the telephone started ringing, ringing, ringing, ringing, ringing off." Love that part.

He performed this last night on his new solo tour. Check it out, maybe Ben's playing somewhere near you.

he's right, I'm pretty sure ben writes 98% of the songs he performs or records.

I like this version better, the original makes me feel like I'm on acid

@MegaCrasher3000 This was done back in 2003 a few months before The Postal Service tour of Spain.

What an awesome acoustic translation of this classic. Does anyone know when this was done?
