I dont think you understand the concept of a cover. A cover is merely someones interpretation of a song, they play it the way they like that song best! And thats the beautiful think about covers, it give the musician covering a particular piece all the freedom and creativity they can possible envision. And saying a cover is good or bad? Well thats just an opinion... MORAL OF THE STORY? Dont compare covers to the original, because its never gonna sound the same and it shouldnt sound the same.

@kaorislaye I'd disagree, With just the piano and his style of singing, it's a totally different sounding song. I don't think it's different take ruins the original. He obviously wasn't trying to imitate the original.

@15flask15 Also, guitar proficiency isn't an indicator of artistic ability. And as far as song complexity goes, intricacy does not equal better. Could Gibbard create a song as powerful as Cobain could, given only power chords to work with and a verse-chorus-verse structure? It's no easy task. Again, I'm not saying Cobain is better.

@15flask15 No, I think you're not getting the concept, because you completely brushed over what I said. Just because you like Gibbard's music more than Cobain's doesn't mean he's a better artist, and vice versa. And if you want to use an irrelevant rating system based on guitar proficiency or song complexity, then that's your choice. But who's a "better artist" is completely and entirely subjective.

@dropbows90 Its fact in the sense that he is the better guitariest, and can also play many other instruments. Yes you may like Nirvanas music better but the fact is that Nirvana's song's just stuck to simple chords while Ben Gibbard is constantly extending the boundries and is able to write quite a lot better material when it comes to a musical sense. Just because you like someone better than the other doesnt mean their better. Thats the concept your not getting.

@15flask15 You gotta remember, Gibbard has had a 14 year career compared to Kurt's 7. That's double. Who knows where Kurt would have gone with another 7 years. And he's just overall better? You can't call that fact... that's very much an opinion. Not everybody likes Death Cab for Cutie or any of his other stuff. I'd rather listen to Unplugged over anything Gibbard has done any day. That's my personal preference, not the last word, just as your idea is a personal preference and not the last word.

sorry to say folks, but Ben Gibbard trumps Kurt Cobain in pretty much every way. Better song writer, better musician, more artistic, just overall better. Maybe you like Nirvana's version better, maybe you dont, that just comes to down to taste. But the facts still remain.
