Ben Folds would often play gigs with two pianos (I saw him at Nashville's famous Ryman Auditorium on the "Reinhold Messner" tour, and he had two pianos onstage that night). He kicked the living shit out of the pedals during gigs, and sometimes they would break ... hence the need for a backup piano.
