Track 18 (the final track) on Ben Folds 'Best Imitation of Myself' CD

'House' is a new song by Ben Folds Five only avaliable on this CD. Ben Folds Five reunited in 2011 to record the songs for the CD. They played together for the first time since 2000 in 2008 to do a concert for Operation Smile Charity. And announced a new album is being made and will be released sometime near september. I think???

Lyrics-

There's a sign up in the yard,

And the the furniture has gone,

Filled with fetid memories,

Unworthy of a song.

Flashes of sad and angry faces come and go,

Could anyone live between those walls and never know?

And I could go there,

But I'm not going,

Pulse is slowing,

No, I'm not nervous anymore.

I've had the nightmares

I've seen some counsellors,

But I'm not going,

Back up in that house again.

It's just like waking up,

In that second and a half,

The bliss of not remembering,

Before it all comes flooding back.

So what do I do as all these voices come and go?

Could anyone live inside my head and never know?

And I could go there,

I'm not going,

Pulse is slowing,

No, I'm not nervous anymore.

I've seen the nightmares,

And some counsellors,

I'm not going,

Back up in that house again.

In that house again.

I'm not sorry,

For what I'm feeling,

Blow the walls out,

Bring the ceiling to the ground.

I've had the nightmares,

Seen the counsellors,

I'm not going,

Back up in that house again.

Fantastic song. Think Darren Jesse actually wrote this for Hotel Lights, but the subtle storytelling is so good it could easily be one of Ben's own.

The house I grew up in....the guy before us had a lot of family issues and lost everything he had. While we were there my brother died after a battle with cancer, then my mom left my dad after a 25 year marriage. The guy who lived there after us had his wife leave him for another woman and it ruined him emotionally. My younger brother moved into another house in that neighborhood and I drive past the old house every time I visit him. I think of this song every time I drive past it. Uncanny how this song relates.

This reminds me of the house where I grew up. My grandparents still own it, and they've talked about having me help get it ready to rent when the current tenants move out. LOLNOPE.

This is a "House" that I wouldn't want to live in. But a beautiful song, nonetheless.
