Hampson is a favorite, fabulous singer of mine but in this Julio Iglesias sounds more beautiful and his spirit is also!

Love, love Thomas Hampson's voice, whether when he sings in an opera or this particular Cole Porter's tune.

Begin the beguine.

Better than Hampson's version(s) of Shenandoah (which is pretty poor for someone with such a good set of pipes) but still heavy handed. Most of the operatic singers who do/did pop well were women. Eileen Farrell was especially good.

Begin the Beguine - Cole PorterWhen they begin the beguineIt brings back the sound of music so tenderIt brings back a night of tropical splendorIt brings back a memory ever greenI'm with you once more under the starsAnd down by the shore an orchestra's playingAnd even the palms seem to be swayingWhen they begin the beguineTo live it again is past all endeavorExcept when that tune clutches my heartAnd there we are, swearing to love foreverAnd promising never, never to partWhat moments divine, what rapture sereneTill clouds came along to disperse the joys we had tastedAnd now when I hear people curse the chance that was wastedI know but too well what they meanSo don't let them begin the beguineLet the love that was once a fire remain an emberLet it sleep like the dead desire I only rememberWhen they begin the beguineO yes, let them begin the beguine, make them playTill the stars that were there before return above youTill you whisper to me once more: "Darling, I love you!"And we suddenly know what heaven we're inWhen they begin the beguine

I'm sorry, he's a great singer who is awful in this. If you want to hear it sung well by a more classical voice listen to Mario Lanza.
