I thought when the guy was yelling " Ludwig" out the window, he wanted Beethoven to quiet down with his music. But then I discovered that it was his father looking for Beethoven to practice his music.

I love this scene in the movie! This is a true fact! When Beethoven debuted his 9th symphony, he was completely deaf! At the end of the symphony, one of the musicians turned him around so that he could see the applause and cheers of the audience and what a resounding hit his symphony had been and still is today.

It's overwhelming for a "newbie" to realize that every single note, for every single voice, every single instrument, including the cadence, volume, and emotion, was written by a single human being and that the sum of it all pleasing to the ear and then the heart and soul! Outrageous! It's a shame that this appreciation comes to be so late in life, for me and those generations to follow. "Immortal Beloved" did a great deal to further it, for this generation. Bravo!

The analysis of an hairlock of Mr. Beethoven gave result that this poor wretched man´s body was loaded with lead! - lead was put in the wine (he drank a lot of it) and it was in the waterpipes in the houses that days. This lead poisoning led to his deafness. Like Schiller he had unbearable pain throughout most of his adult life. That also led to his temper, his outbursts etc. How he could write the 9th being completely deaf is beyond any imagination for us normal and not blessed human beings.
