One of the greatest songwriting teams and harmonizing trios of the last 40 years, the Bee Gees perform live in 1989 from the National Tennis Center in Melbourne, Australia.

The song recounts the story of a miner trapped in a cave-in. He is sharing a photo of his wife with a colleague ("Mr Jones") while they hopelessly wait to be rescued. According to the liner notes for their box-set Tales from the Brothers Gibb (1990), this song was inspired by the 1966 Aberfan mining disaster in Wales.

Lost, forgotten by a generation who barely knows the Bee Gees pre disco era..........So many truly great songs! A Beatle esk Lonely Days Lonely Nights is one of their better songs written in a single evening upon getting back together...............

素晴らしいハーモニーだ。いまのバンドやコーラスグループでこんなにきれいにハモれるグループがあるだろうか。それにしても懐かしい。

You can see their bond as brothers so well here. The bee gees were the closest family band in history. It's a beautiful thing, and a hauntingly beautiful song.

The Bee Gees knew that coal miners have to fight daily for a safe workplace. To hear how miners who make safety complaints today are treated by outlaw coal operators, check out Raymond Crooke's song "Big Coal Don't Like This Man At All" on YouTube. It tells the true story of Kentucky coal miner Charles Scott Howard, who stood up for safety at an underground mine operated by Arch Coal and was fired as a result. He filed a whistleblower case, won his job back and is working in the mines again!
