Can somebody PLEASE tell me what the hell this song is about. It came out the year I was born and I grew up hearing it and trying to figure out what it means. Nobody could ever make sense of it. Read somewhere that it was a conservative backlash against the San Francisco summer of love scene and all that, which one would tend to accept given the Bee Gees. But was Massachusetts really that stuffy back them? And it seems to build up to this profound statement:"And Massachusetts is one place I have seen"??? Please help.

Love this song.....and fun to realize that the Bee Gees were never planning on singing this song. It was written by them for The Seekers but the management of The Seekers did not think it fit them. So the Bee Gees recorded it themselves and the rest is history. It was a chance meeting between Judith Durham and Maurice Gibb that brought this to The Seekers attention and they did perform it as a tribute to Maurice following his death.

I haven't met one skinny person who doesn't like the Bee Gees. Of course there are many obese people who love them, but skinny people must visualise themselves slipping into these delicate and talented silhouettes on stage. ;-)
