For some reason, I find this cover haunting, visceral and stunning. Leonard Cohen songs are so amazing that they can be transformed like this and still work, like Nick Cave's cover of Tower of Song. At first, I was like WTF, but then you realize the original song is so great that is can be morphed into something entirely different and still be great.

I love this song of Leonard Cohen and I understand this version!! I think that it is wonderful...so spontaneous...and beck is a genius!!

Even if I 'didn't' know (and love) how this song is supposed to sound...I would hate this version. No redeeming value. The Lyric deserves a much better treatment than this interpretation offers. Simply put...it sucks.

Does anyone know of a faster, more punker and more emotional sounding version of this that came out in the early '90's? I'm thinking it might of been a band from the Northwest but I'm not sure. I just know I heard it on Drinking from Puddles on KBOO in Portland, OR. I'm sorry but this version just ain't cutting it and I swear if you heard that version, you'd be blown away.
