Recorded from the original LP...
'Dancing in the Moonlight (All Alone)' and 'Honeymoon on Mars', by Be Bop Deluxe, from their 1976 album 'Modern Music'.
Composed by Bill Nelson, published by BMI; recording published by EMI Records Ltd.
I don't find literal modern music too appealing. However, Modern Music, the album, is outstanding, as are these two songs from side two thereof. Should you like to read along (or do whatever else you might choose to do with lyrics, I won't judge you), here are the lyrics, hand-copied verbatim (and double-checked, too!) from the back of the inner sleeve:
DANCING IN THE MOONLIGHT (ALL ALONE.)
Burning . . . My love for you is burning . . .
Yearning for the day when I'm returning . . .
All alone . . . I wonder if you're all alone . . .
Moonlight . . . You're dancing in the moonlight . . .
All-night . . . I want to hold you all night . . .
All alone, I wonder if you're all alone
When will this journey be through . . .
I'd like to make love to you . . .
Moonlight . . .
You're dancing in the moonlight . . .
All night . . .
I need to hold you all night . . .
All alone . . . I wonder if you're all alone . . .
All alone . . . I wonder if you're all alone . . .
All alone . . . I wonder if you're all alone . . .
HONEYMOON ON MARS
I wonder if you're all alone
Beneath those diamond stars . . .
A honeymoon on Mars . . .
Tonight this desert world is ours . . .
I'll meet you by the towers
For cocktails in the bar . . .
Martian honeymoon, We're going out there in July . . .
Martian honeymoon, we'll watch the passing show go by . . .
Flash Gordon's ghost will never die,
He's just a flash across the sky . . .
He's just a flash across the sky . . .
He's just a flash across the sky . . .
Copyrights belong to their respective owners, of course, but are gently brushed aside in the spirit of listening to good music. If you like BBD a lot, go buy an LP or a CD or buy (aye, pay for) a digital-download and support Bill Nelson. On the subject of rights-reservedness, I point out:
The title picture was made by me, a composite of three images (a photo of the band, a photo of a rocket taking off, and a scan of the cover of Modern Music. The exact sources I have forgotten; if you own any of the images and take great offence at my using them this way, do tell me and I'll correct the problem--I don't mean to accidentally steal your stuff.)
The second picture is a neat work of art lovingly appropriated from here: http://mrdotd.wordpress.com/2009/04/06/dancing-in-the-moonlight/
The final picture is one of Mars, gratefully lifted from: http://scienceblogs.com/startswithabang/2009/07/could_we_garden_on_mars.php
Enjoy!
