(1989) "The Stop The Violence Movement"....[Info below]

Featuring: Boogie Down Productions (KRS-One, D-Nice & Ms. Melodie), Stetsasonic (Delite, Daddy-O, Wise & Frukwan), Kool Moe Dee, MC Lyte, Doug E. Fresh, Just-Ice, Heavy D & Public Enemy (Chuck D & Flava Flav)

The Stop the Violence Movement was begun by rapper KRS-One in 1989 in response to violence in the hip hop and African American communities.

In 1988, during a concert by Boogie Down Productions and Public Enemy, a young fan was killed in a fight. The killing occurred shortly after Scott La Rock, a founding member of Boogie Down Productions, was killed in a shooting. KRS-One responded to these tragedies by forming the Stop the Violence Movement, to advance a vision of hip hop that would restore hip hop's "original principles" to the music industry. Composed of some of the biggest stars in contemporary East Coast hip hop, the movement released a single, "Self Destruction", in 1989, with all proceeds going to the National Urban League.

"Self-Destruction" was produced by KRS-One and D-Nice of Boogie Down Productions (Hank Shocklee of the Bomb Squad is credited as an associate producer)

This song should have came out when the East Coast-West Coast rivalries were going on.

I grew up during a time when we addressed one another for OUR issues.Everybody was a player going for the win, now everyone plays the victim and wishes for the win. There is power in posting, are you uplifting or adding to the ‪#‎selfdestruction‬?? ‪#‎hiphop‬

I couldn't agree more with folks talking about baltimore, ferguson etc.. I only want to add this for levity. It's important to remember that the people in these places where riots are taking place don't own anything. People keep saying don't tear up your city, but it's not their city, they don't own any of it. I'm not condoning destruction I just hate when details always get lost whenever people are talking about black people. The details matter, they mean everything. The city is living off being on the backs of those people, unnecessary and unreasonable arrest and court fines to extract money from the poorest people to go into the purse of the city. So remember next time you see people rioting and ask yourself is that really their city or just another place living on the backs of their oppression, squeezing them.
