YEEEHAWWW!

The Ragin' Cajun is back! Earlier this year, I inadvertently deleted my You Tube account and lost all my videos. Among them were several rare Doug Kershaw songs from an old PBS show called "Fiddlers Three" which starred Doug, Jean Luc Ponty and Itzhak Perlman. I dug for the VHS tape but never could find it so I assumed I had tossed it after my initial transfer to digital. Just last week, while cleaning my work room, I found the tape! I will upload the 4 Kershaw songs as well as the show finale that starred all three fiddlers. This was Doug's second song, "The Battle of New Orleans".

Thanks for sharing these videos. I was there for this and other Soundstage performances. It was a great venue. Fiddlers Three was my favorite of all the performances.

Never liked Doug's version of Battle of New Orleans. Maybe I was already spoiled by Johnny Horton's version.

thanks! I was lucky enough to have seen him in Reno in a small, small room in about 1978...all I can remember is that I was electrified with the sheer energy. And amazed as the strings on his bow just snapped one by one...now that I am somewhat "educated" in Cajun music and culture - I wish I had had a couple less drinks!

I believe I recorded it in 1978 or 1979.

I saw this on WNET all those years ago.I was born in N.Y.and growing up there,I had never seen or heard anyone play this music before. Who better to introduce me to this world of music than Douglas Kershaw?! I remember being just amazed at the way he played that fiddle with such ferocity that the strings were shredded, the way he moved as he played and the expressions on his face and in his voice! I haven't seen or heard anyone even quite like Douglas Kershaw since, anywhere. He is truly unique
