Charted at #13 on Billboard Hot 100 in January 1966 and #3 on Adult Contemporary chart. This was Barry's only Hot 100 single. It's performed and arranged in a great Dean Martin like style. Remake of a #1 Country hit by Jimmy Wakely in 1948 (and #10 Pop). Also, in 1948, a version by it's co-writer, Eddie Dean, charted at #11 Country. In 1949, Bob Eberly charted at #8 Country with another recording of the song. Finally, another remake by Jerry Lee Lewis charted at #3 Country in 1969.

Released as a single in July 1965.

Written by Eddie Dean, Dearest Dean and Hal Blair.

Arranged by Ernie Freeman.

B-side is "Show Me the Way".

I was also curious as to what happened to Barry. I found out he had a brain abscess and died on Dec 2 1966, and he was only 33.

Dean Martin never recorded this song. If someone has the record company and number for a Dean Martin version, please post.

He had a touch of Dean's vocal style, but what makes this song a dead ringer is the arrangement which mimics Jimmy Bowen's charts for Dean down cold (and Dean covered his share of country songs and crossed them over.)

Nice voice, nice melody, but very sad song - adultery is not good. I don't know who would want their husband singing this about them. If they do,they sure can't be true. Malachi 2:16- 16 “The man who hates and divorces his wife,” says the LORD, the God of Israel, “does violence to the one he should protect,”says the LORD Almighty.

For years I simply assumed this was Dean Martin! One of the best examples of vocal impersonation to hit the charts. Thanks!
