the sound of Boston for the most part is not pentatonic, most blues and blues rock is pentatonic .Tom Scholtz plays a lot of mixolydian and harmonic minor scales which are more classically influenced and what I prefer hearing but this is still very good ,its just not the Boston sound that is epic and majestic , its the other thing they did

This is a very good album.  Not as obsessively fine tuned as the Boston Albums were, but rock and roll was not very often as polished as those.  I like the fact that this album is a little raw and undone.  The talent still shows through.  Barry is a fantastic guitar player, and of course the golden pipes of Brad.  With 3 of the 5 members of Boston on the record, it is bound to have some of that sound.  I am glad they made it, because I love that sound, and Tom took way to long to get albums done.

In my mind, there are no worse tracks on Third Stage, it's an A-class album all the way through, but so is that RTZ debut if you ask me!

I notice now as I browse you gave me credit for the suggestion to redub the audio, it still sounds fresh and funky, my brother! hahaha

This song and Dreams are the creme of the crop, the rest sound Under Produced, and not as vibrant. Still wish this saw proper reissue as needed!

I always considered this the 3rd Boston album...

And that's great !! Also, Barry really was essential to those two first albums from Boston. This album should have done as great as those two great works from Boston, but I guess some fans were prejudiced.

Since it's 60% of Boston with the lead singer it might as well be a Boston song!

@ST21phil07 Fran Cosmo mimed the bass in the video for "Dreams." Probably where you got the idea.
