A Rock
I respect your opinion as another die hard fan but I suggest looking into learning some of the songs off of The Hunter. Their composition is mind blowing in the metal genre. It's not agressive but where else would you hear 12/8 to 16/12 to 8/8 (Thickening) or Travis Picking in AGCF (Bedazzled Fingernails) or if you want to talk consistency, the same crazy hybrid picking in Divinations (Octopus Has no Friends.) I realize it takes a bit and yeah the titles are ridiculous but give it a chance. :P11 years ago

i disagree. i think both the hunter and yellow&green were much simpler, more basic, less aggressive, watered down versions of each respective band. i still enjoy those 2 albums but i WORSHIP all other releases by both bands, which definitely demonstrate a different level of musicianship11 years ago

Well trying to compare Mastodon's previous albums to their current vs Baroness' previous to this is actually kind've exactly the opposite. This is more a simplified, barebones, doom rock type of sound. Mastodon goes nuts on The Hunter. There's tons of weird different techniques being used and if we're looking at just composition, that album vs this is black and white. I understand where you guys don't like these new sounds but give them a chance. I did and I'm lovin' both albums.11 years ago

Here's a thought: The people complaining are goobers. Music naturally migrates to what people want to listen to, both the performers and the audience. I was skiving off physics class listening to Metallica, and I don't get a medal. It's "avant garde and experimental" until people like it. Then, they "sold out". People complaining about those who preferred Red album/ Blue record should seriously think before labelling them all as elitists, or that they are 'bitching'. This band may have progressed and many may applaud them for it, but don't forget that people have music tastes. When they progress from one album to the next to this extent you can't expect the band to maintain its entire fan-base. Some people are bound to feel uninterested in the new Baroness, and they're allowed to say so.12 years ago
