Now for our mystery extra song, we couldn't do a tribute to Bernstein without Streisand's version of "Somewhere". I remember I was attending KU and I walked into the Television room, and there was Barbra singing like nobody's business. I was so excited that she had recorded songs from Broadway. This song's lyric is unquestionably one of Sondheim's finest achievements. Somewhere out there, there's got to be a place where two lovers can find tranquility, serenity, and the time to enjoy their love! Such was not the case for Romeo and Juliet or Tony and Maria. Two families at war with one another: Capulet s and the Montague s. Two kids are in Love and these families just destroy whatever chance that they have at happiness. Streisand makes this song her own, as she does with everything that she sings! "We'll find a way of forgiving" which is the most important lyric in this song. "West Side Story" exemplifies the violence in our society with gang wars(Jet's and the Sharks). I look at Streisand as a mentor, because in every song that she's ever sang, she has always invested her complete being into the song. A beautiful minor 7th starts off the song, and it builds from there! Hope is always present in this song. Somehow, Somewhere if we could all realize that we all are one. I Love the duet that Jason and Barbra performed on the album "Partners" but I chose the earlier version, because it is Streisand at her very peek! Good night and Have a great weekend!

Arguably the best song from "West Side Story", and easily the greatest recorded version . . . CAN'T BE SUNG BETTER . . . Streisand made it a masterpiece!

I was here on YT watching a 1985 episode of Guiding Light and this version was featured in that episode. It sounded so beautiful and I assumed it was Streisand, so I was brought here. Hadn't heard this version before that, but it's amazing. :)
