Barbra Streisand's 12" Promo version of her first ever disco hit and single to be made into an extended version. 1975. From the Album 'Lazy Afternoon'. A classic.

Lyrics:

(Uh...Ah...Uh...Please shake me baby!)

All through this long and sleepless night

I hear my neighbors talking

(He don't love 'er)

Sayin' right out of my life

Into another's arms

He'll soon be walkin'

(Soon be walkin')

Somebody shake me (Shake me)

Wake me (Wake me)

When it's over (When it's over)

Somebody tell me (Tell me)

Am I dreaming? (Dreaming)

When it's over (When it's over)

They say our love ain't

What it used to be

And everyone knows but me

I close my eyes not wanting to hear

But the words are loud and clear

(Ah ah ah ah!)

Through these walls so thin

I hear my neighbors when

They said don't love 'er

(He don't love 'er)

They say my heart's in danger

Cause you're leaving me

For the love of a stranger

(Love of a stranger)

Somebody shake me (Shake me)

Wake me (Wake me)

When it's over (When it's over)

Somebody tell me (Tell me)

Am I dreaming? (Dreaming)

When it's over (When it's over)

You're just what my heart desires

My whole world you inspire

I can't bear I think I'm losing you

Cause I've loved you my whole life through

Through these walls so thin

I hear my neighbors when

They said he don't love 'er

(He don't love 'er)

Oh no!

They say my heart's in danger

Cause you're leaving me

For the love of a stranger

(Love of a stranger)

Somebody shake me (Wake me)

Oh Shake me(Wake me)

Shake me (Shake me) Shake me (Shake me)

Shake me (Shake me)

Oh somebody Wake me)

When it's over (When it's over)

Somebody tell me (Tell me)

Am I dreaming? (Dreaming)

When it's over (When it's over)

Somebody wake me(Shake me)

Wake me shake me(Shake me)

Wake me shake me(Wake me)

When it's over (When it's over)

(Wake me shake me)

Shake me somebody

Tell me that I'm dreaming...

I remember when this came out and the gay disco I went to all the time started playing it....the dance floor was totally crowded.

Damn...if this 12" had a flat-out drum break (like 8 bars!), it would be INSANE!!

Never played on UK radio- totally ignored! Should've been a monster hit!

In answer to Discovios question, "who am I?", I am just a songwriter that had a version of that song ripped off being that I was young and inexperienced in the music biz.

I know this is going to be hard to believe, but I actually wrote this arrangement in a disco style and sang it when I was around 19. I gave the tape to some New York producer and he shopped it around and told me nobody liked it. 6 months later I heard it on the radio. It had almost the exact arrangement, chords, and feel. I was too inexperienced to copyright. So Babs, I hope you liked MY version.

Why have I never heard this extended version, since I've been a Barbra fan since she first hit it big? This cut screamed out for a remix; the album version was way too short. Thanks for posting!

There's no credit given as to who remixed this, tho this was '75, so maybe remix credit was not a necessarily given. who knows? Great song, great to hear Streisan having some fun, with Motown, no less. Bobbye Hall Porter's percussion kicks! Thank you for this!
