I always thought that No Substance and The New America tended to tease with the prog rock that BR had teased with in the past during the early days. They were testing the waters outside of the hardcore scene that they knew, sometimes they missed, and others were dead on. Ultimately they had concluded that they enjoyed playing melodic hardcore more, for which I am happy, with repetition comes inertia and I'm glad that they took the time to make the excursions that they did.
