The Thai elites are very discriminating toward the Cambodian people especially emigrants. They see these people as sub humans. I don't think greed was the real motivation for hitting me and other children. It was done out of hatred. To this date, I don't eat at Thai restaurants, I rather go to Laotian instead....same food. If you don't mind me asking you, what kind of profession do you do?

I ust don't know why that owner was so greedy and selfish of not allowing you kids to watch th emovie for free . Maybe he was trying to make some money and profit of showing the movie at your camp . I am so glad that your family members didn't witness the whole thing.

It wasn't a real movie theater, it was more like a garage with chairs and a TV. The garage door was open slightly to allow for ventilation and was big enough for a small kid to slide under. The owner was standing right next to the door. He grabbed and dragged me outside and started caning me with the broom stick. Just about everybody around the building saw what happen to me. I never told my family until recently. I wanted to go back to that place one day so I can piss on his grave.

Hey Ken ! Dude , I am so sorry what happened to you when you tried to sneak into the movie ! How many people were watching your beating ? Were your family members watching it ?

I'll tell you a personal story of mine during my stay at the camp. One evening my play pal and I snuck into a movie lounge to watch a movie that are shown to the camp resident for a fee. I was about 6 maybe 7 and the other kid was about the same age. We didn't have any money we took that risk as kids would. The Thai owner caught us and dragged me out side by the hair. I begged him to let me go but of no avail. He took out a broom stick and began beating me in front of everybody.

------> the last camp is dedicated to teaching you the laws and customs of the sponsoring country. All together most families spent about 3-5 years in the camps. Some 4th camps are located in the Philippines. As I understand it, even the Filipinos don't really want that much influx of refugees into their country even though its just a short stay.

Only Cambodians are on those Camps located in Southern Thailand next the Cambodian border. I don't know about any other camps other than the Cambodian ones. There are 4 camps all together. You stayed at the 1st camp for a about a year or so until somebody from those Nato/Red Cross/UNICEF country (USA, Canada, France, Australia, Germany, other European Countries, Japan, etc.) sponsored you. Then you moved to another immediate camp, then 3rd and finally the last camp is dedicated to..........>

Hello KKR ! How can the Thai people tell the differences between the Cambodians , Laos, Burmese and Vietamese refugees in the camps ? What I am trying to say is that if I was a Cambodian without saying a single Cambodia word to any of them , would the Thai know if I was a Camabodian or not ?

The Thai look down on Cambodian refugees as servants unqualified to sit on the same table with them. You go into their shops in the camps and they serve you with their eyes closed. Kids who wonder off the camp's perimeters would get shot on the spot. I've seen it with my own eyes on several occasions.

There's a good size of Vietnamese and Cambodian population there in NC. Yes, the population is mainly composed of Black and White people. There are traces of racism in there. Its in the heart of the South. I'm living in Fresno/Clovis, Ca. Its right in the middle of California called central valley. I visit my brothers and sisters once a year.

North Carolina ? Why ? All Veitnamese and Cambodian people living in Californa ! North Carolina is full of white and black people, right ? Hardly any Asians down there ! Any racism in North Carolina ? Okay if your whole family is living in North Carolina , are you still living in San Deigo currently ?Do you miss your family because they live the other side of USA ?

My parents, brothers and sisters are living in North Carolina. Kratje is about 350Km from Phnom Penh. Its about 600Km and 800Km respectively from the Vietnamese and Thai borders. We left Cambodia and found our way to refugee camps in Thailand in the late 78 after the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia which resulted in the liberation of millions of Cambodians from the Khmer Rouge. The Thai people treated Cambodians like dogs while in the refugee camps, very cruel people. We left for America in 83.
