BTO gave us some fabulous music, but I feel this is the best of all. The first time I heard this, I didn't recognize Randy's lead vocals (although I grew up listening to The Guess Who). "Blue Collar" combines so many influences - R&B ( Randy's vocals are somewhat reminiscent of the late Al Wilson ("Show and Tell"), jazz and rock. The song's lyrics of 45 years ago are more relevant now than ever, asking for tolerance, understanding and respect when we look at the way others lead their lives.

That driving beat and slightly sinister guitar brings me back to my college daze in the early 70s. Strange to hear old songs and how they can almost instantly return one to the past. Those were frightening days, as anybody of my generation will tell you. It shows in songs like this.

Way back in 1982, I used to work 2 jobs, one of them 3rd shift driving the newspaper truck around town in the quiet hours. This song always bring me back to those times. "At 4 in the morning, my world is very still. The air is fresh under diamond skies, makes me glad to be alive". Exactly!!
