Recorded on Feb. 25, 1971. Meant for the Straight Up album, which was delayed, as it went through many rejections and three producers. A strong rocker by Pete Ham

Killer lead guitar!! Pete was so versatile.....and Ron Griffiths, I would have loved to hear you come back with Pete and the boys, without Joey. Imagine you all five years down the line after you all would have grown as players and writers!!

Still love this, a raw, real beauty of a song.

Gorgeous rocker, so typical of Pete's great skills. Would have made a great single. Dan, I love the lightning bolt effect :-) Ron Griffiths, bless you and thanks for sharing so much.

I just keep thinking about all the songs that might have been if things had played out differently. I hope Stan Polley is rotting in hell.

This song is a great balance between rock and pop, precise and concise. I'm sure it would have gotten a lot of airplay had this version of Straight Up been released in 1971.

I agree...but it is better to have it than not. I wish they would have done a better job than they did. I prefer the original LP's.

Ron - to imagine you and Pete reunited, recording together again after the fall of Badfinger - if only that was how the story had played out...

It was released but it sounded like muddy crap. Dan does a far better job mastering this stuff.

That is NOT Joey's lead guitar. It's Pete Ham. As Mike said, he did all the parts except the bass and drums. Even Joey acknowledged that in an interview.

Glad I'm still around to hear it !! If Pete had overcome his demons - I know he would have had me back working with him further down the line. RIP gentlemen.

Oh and this song was released on the 2010 CDs.

Oh I own them. I also own Magic Christian Music, No Dice, and Straight Up on vinyl, and all of their stuff on CD. I still can't find a cheap copy of their Tragic Story book. Badfinger is one of my favorite bands.

I hope you've listened to 7 Park Avenue and Golders Green. A couple of amazing CDs of Pete Demos. They definitely give you insight into what Pete would have been like as a solo artist. I love Joey's lead on this song. This is a great song that should have been a huge hit. For Badfinger, though, it wasn't even released on their CDs. Shows you how great of a band they are. Badfinger and the Beatles are the only two bands you can mention when talking about the greatest bands of all time.

Mike's comment that he took Pete for granted is sad. I think a lot of people took him for granted or took advantage of him, and he was too gentle of a soul to fight back. He had the gift, though - he was a musical genius. That makes his loss even harder to bear...

I think Pete could've added some rockin boogie-woogie piano to this as well.

Thanks for this! Records like this will never be made again. Pure analog sounds. The whole build-up to the solo is incredible. Absolute classic! Pete WAS a genius.

My favorite channel on youtube. Love Bafinger to death. I can only imagine what Pete would have been like as a solo artist. Would have been awesome! RIP Pete!
