LYRICS:

The Night (1988 Deathrock version)

The day is the wife whom I elude.

The one to whom I should be right.

Though forewarned by peers and kin

I always give in to the night.

Mother always warned me such,

being a nocturnal soul

Besides just being simply strange

Spawns from some illness of the mind.

But the Night,

She calls me

She calls me

She calls me

She calls me

She sways in her velvet dress

And pulls me towards her in the dark

While the others rest

While the others rest

While the others rest

Heed the call the time has come

for you children of the Night

Gather 'round like suckling dogs

Mother's come she is the Night.

Come with me to the other side.

Make that girl in black your bride!

But the Night,

She calls me

She calls me

She calls me

She calls me

She sways in her velvet dress

And pulls me towards her in the dark

While the others rest

While the others rest

While the others rest

I see the light

coming through the blinds.

I close my eyes.

I don't care if you think it's wrong.

I'm gonna sleep the whole day long.

The sun goes down, This is my wake up call.

It still seems very strange to me

that her quiet, lonely streets

draped in all their mystery

could be so sweet and comforting

But the Night,

She calls me

She calls me

She calls me

She calls me

She sways in her velvet dress

And pulls me toward her in the dark

While the others rest

While the others rest

While the others rest

I have always loved the original version of this song on the Almost Human album and this version is awesome as well! This song has always jibed with me so well as I'm very much a night person by nature. Keep doin' what you do, Voltaire!

It's cool to see this song put to a different style, but I feel like there's some energy missing from the chorus. It doesn't really have that "punch" to it that I was expecting from the build-up.

I started playing this album on playlist, and then this song started sounding familiar.. And then I realised it was what I thought it was. I love the original version of The Night, this was so cool. Definitely buying this

Sir Voltaire.Just like before, when I was commenting differences between both versions of "When You're Evil" (Cave Canem and devil's Bris)... I feel this amazing chill of excitement. The "Almost Human" version and the one from here are so similiar yet different. As time goes on, your style keeps evolving, from creepy and quite malicious tones, "leaving them behind" (I love that often used phrase of yours) and replacing them with something...new. On each album something constant and old in your style gets rebuilt and redefined in new manner, something more...brutal, stronger (especially in this album), however, it somehow remains the same. The best comparition between the two I can write down here is by describing what I see while listening to both versions. In the older one, I see the dark, unrecognizable creature. It sings, staying in shadow all the time, always behind the corner, always hidden, wicked, The creatures of the night, answering to the call, crawl out from gaps between the buildings, from wells, sewers... They gather in the middle of partly destroyed ballroom, dancing together, their steps melting together and uniting into the higher state of being. I can see the Night by watching all her creatures, I can see her dance by her monsters dancing, their moves are moves of the Night herself. The new version? For sure it starts slower, but builds up much quicker and the pace is amazingly flowing through the streets of the old, gothic city, I see dozens of bats flying out from skyscraping towers, I see skeletons and zombies raising from the grave and performing the wicked, fast and furious dance as the party escalates...and then comes Her. The Night herself. Dressed in pitch black, beautiful suit, dancing in between her minions, flowing in the air, when it twitches from the menacing force of deathrock!
