"And the white on his flag brings colors to shame."When I first heard this song, and the story behind it, I couldn't help but be blown away and moved. To me, the phrase above is an ode to who David was. A man who was good. "And the white of his flag" this was a man that made you want to be a better man when you looked at him. White is the color of purity. Of innocence. What I take from this song is that we all are carrying our own flags, which represent our lives. Some of our lives, or "flags", have been dirtied and discolored. But they can be washed and made new. I only hope that I can live my life in such a way that when I die, I'll have something half so profound said about me, and how I carried my flag.
