I now have a new appreciation for this song. as for the beginning; Slug is legendary for symbolism and metaphors. Think beyond the initial definition of the words and into the slang and pun usage. After he and is friend "caught a case of pride", he eventually "blew up" right in front of this face because he wanted to be famous. and then the chorus of "Blowing up" but it won't go "Pop", as in he's going to gain a larger fan-base but he'll never go make "pop music" and sell out.
