A very early demo of Simon & Garfunkel's "At The Zoo." This 1967 version features Paul on his guitar, singing very different lyrics. At this point the song wasn't even about a Zoo at all! A completed version of "At The Zoo" would later appear on Simon & Garfunkel's 1968 masterpiece "Bookends."

Goodness! Paul S. had the melody but not the words or subject. So off he goes like so many others did at the time: Remember Paul McCartney's classic ' Scrambled Egg.'

I see magic, and more emotion than words can express. 1964-1971, an era I will never know, but for some reason I have a feeling of nostalgia that cannot be matched. I would give anything to live in an era of peace and love, and experiences. Ahh I just can not say enough about this. Always smiling when i watch this, more than any of you could ever know :)

That sounds like a really great encounter. I agree, people who have been blessed with fame must really appreciate experiences like that.

Great video ! I sat next to Mr. Simon on a commercial flight from New York to Chicago many years ago and he was barely recognized (I think he appreciated that). We talked a bit and we reminisced on childhood as we are both from Queens. Top guy. A lot shorter than I imagined though....

Hee! Hee! yep! I think he was smoking some of that wacky tobacky. I'm wondering how he eventually came up with idea of "The Zoo"? I remember wandering around Calgary Zoo in 1974 stoned outta my ever lovin' mind. It took me three hours to find my way outa there. The funny thing was that I kept ending up in the monkey area, and they all knew that I was stoned - they kept talking about me.. Weird eh?

when I was a kid in the late 70s there was a commercial for a zoo, maybe the Bronx zoo or somewhere in the NYC metro area & they'd play this song every time the commercial came on.

This is one of those rare moments where the demo is just about as good as the song lol

Holy CRAP! I love "At The Zoo"... and have never heard this til now. This is fantastic. I'm glad he went with the at the zoo lyrics because they're so interesting and fun. I can't believe he wrote two sets of lyrics for this song. Awesome.
