"ARE YOU THE MAN NOW THAT YOU GOT WHAT YOU WANTED?"My commentary.This song is for those who keep giving into their problems. The sort of sarcastic tone almost seems like the singer is talking to God, but I believe he’s actually speaking to both himself and the world. Also, the tone is hardly encouraging with phrases like “let it be known that this is what you’ll get…no one wins…” and others. More and more questioning at the end with “are you the man now?” saying that living for self and world is leaving you empty, and you’re realizing to too slowly to care. I think this song is slightly more powerful instrumentally than lyrically because of it’s didactic and vague tone. There are some of the best guitar and drums sounds on this song especially toward the solo and outro. Without a 2nd thought, this song’s ending has my favorite direct and powerful questioning presented throughout the album in those final 2 lines. Are we really who we want to be now that we’ve dreamed everything and become as the world and our selfish wants? “Well, I’ve got a will, but I want yours” sings true again, and may have something in common with this theme.
