Arthur Crudup is the original singer/song writer of this song, which Elvis Presley eventually covered. Lyrics are:

Yes my baby left me,

Never said a word.

Was it something I done,

Something that she heard?

My baby left me,

My baby left me.

My baby even left me,

Never said a word.

Now I stand at my window,

Wring my hands and cry.

I hate to lose that woman,

Hate to say goodbye.

You know she left me,

Yes, she left me.

My baby even left me,

Never said a word.

Baby, one of these mornings,

Lord, it won't be long,

You'll look for me and,

Baby, and daddy he'll be gone.

You know you left me,

You know you left me.

My baby even left me,

Never said a word.

Now, I stand at my window,

Wring my hands and moan.

All I know is that

The one I love is gone.

My baby left me,

You know she left me.

My baby even left me,

Never said a word

Magicbus, we are on the same side, surely? I was replying to some racist ignoramus and quoting his words back to him.

People who blame Arthur not having a hit with this song but Elvis having a hit don't know anything. First of all Elvis didn't have a hit with this song, it didn't even chart. Secondly, it had nothing to do with racism, how many old black guys or old white guys do you see on the charts today? None. Elvis wasn't just white, he was young and looked better than every singer then, and now for that matter with a voice that remains the most versatile in music history. Elvis had no way of not becoming the best singer of his era. He went on to become the best singer ever, so I don't get how people can sit there and complain about him becoming the best singer of the 50's. The guy was unreal.

Great record, love the Elvis version also. Arthur Crudup also did ' That's Alright Mama', one of Elvis ' musical heroes.
