This song's subject matter and lyrics are pretty unqiue. If you want to make the case it's a groundbreaking song I think you can. Name me another rock song in the last, oh, 50 years, that is specifically about not knowing about another great rock band and then discovering them way late in the came, admitting your own ignorance with language that is witty and self-deprecating. I can't think of another song, can you?

The Replacements mixed punk, pop, classic rock, folk and other genres to create a unique style. Dozens of modern bands owe their existence to the Replacements. I would recommend Tim, Pleased to Meet, and Let It Be as good starting points for the Replacements newbie.
