Thank you! I have some handwritten lyrics from John Bush ("In the Hole" & "you're Never Alone) but had always wondered about these lyrics. Thank you for the enlightenment, sir.

I am thinking that maybe it isn't "Rowan" that John is singing, A lot of bands in music like to make lyrics simple. Using such a word that most of us English speaking people wouldn't know of is kind of senseless. I had never heard of that word before, or since. They obviously knew that people would be asking, "What did he say???" Still, an awesome song. I wish i could ask John, himself. Perhaps writing a msg on the Armored Saint website, or facebook page may produce some enlightenment.

Just saw your question and it means getting red with blood, like going to war, it is a really old Viking/Germanic term. Here is the Wiki definition: The name "rowan" is derived from the Old Norse name for the tree, raun. Linguists believe that the Norse name is ultimately derived from a proto-Germanic word *raudnian meaning "getting red" and which referred to the red foliage and red berries in the autumn

Saw some lyrics, but i felt the same thing. They didn't make sense, especially the chorus, which goes "Rowan, final stunt. Will the bloodshed end at once? Rowan, is no doubt, .Life in limbo is our home now." Wondering what "Rowan" means. LOL Still, i love the song!

No one from the 80's and beyond had the vocal power of John Bush or the emotion for that matter. I must have played this song a million times. Still makes the hair stand up on my arms.
