I first heard this song during a concert with Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie. I don't think Pete or Arlo gave any thought to race or politics or career with regard to this song. Anyone who thinks Arlo avoided any Jewish influence of this song doesn't understand who Arlo is. It is just a great folk song ... and, that is why it is here.

Write to > [email protected] < to read my eulogy/obituary. I worked with Pete both on stage and in the recording studio. He was a friend to anybody who needed help. Peace to you. Joe Stead.

The song is really about Israeli girls meeting Israeli soldiers...Arlo did not mention Hebrew because he converted to Catholicism...

Guys, I know this song and can say that this was the most hilarious thing I've ever heard! His dialogue is all a joke, and I laughed at it, especially during the "tzena tzena tzena tzena" and "al na al na al na al na" reference! So funny!

I never realised the tambourine player could only see through the right eye!

@spfix Indeed he did, Pete played at it. And I wouldn't be too suprised to learn that the rest of the Weavers showed up. If anybody out there knows, please post about it.

I realize this video is decades old. But if I had been at that concert I would have given my left eyeball for a date with the Tambourine player.
