ApologetiX Parody of Kansas "Carry On Wayward Son" called "Hurry Home Wayward Son"

Lyrics:

Hurry Home Wayward Son

Parody of Carry On Wayward Son performed by Kansas and written by Kerry Livgren

(Luke 15:11-32)

Hurry home my wayward son

There'll be a feast when you are done

Stay here with me and be blest

Don't you hide no more

Once I raised a couple boys -- yes, my two sons

Didn't ever think that I'd ever lose one

I was sure he'd never try it

But he grew too wild

So he asked if he could get his inheritance

Though it saddened me I still was his parent

I hear my boy is spending freely

I just fear he'll pay

CHORUS

As I'm waiting there's a famine where he's been

My son may be in the gutter and bleedin'

But didn't I train him to be a wise man, well

He should be safe, but I don't know

From the stories people tell me he's broke and

Tossin' out his life to pigs an old pen

I sit on the porch and wait here for him

Will I see my boy this day?

CHORUS

Hurry home -- you will always be my boy

Hurry home -- there's no need to be shy boy

Though you left you're always family

Surely there's a place for you

CHORUS

Luke 15:20

"So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him."

Hey, there, asis117, I listen to Apologetix.......and I give no apologies. They are a parody Christian Band that spreads the love of God through changing lyrics to popular tunes.........now if you listened to Weird Al Yankovich and his parody songs, would you be saying the same thing about him?......Weird Al has been doing the same thing for the past 20+ years, but for good humor. If he took a Kansas song and made it funny, would you be insulted?.....

I don't care if you particularly like this or not but you can't say this doesn't take talent. Think how much time they put into each parody. They have to rewrite the lyrics to Christian lyrics and keep them fitting into the song, they do all their own instruments. And the fact that this sounds so familiar to the original says enough, I hope they keep up what their doing here! I have every album they have done and been to multiple concerts and love the apologetix!!!

I certainly give credit to Kansas, and like them v. much! Can't you like both?

asis117

Nope, All credit should go to Kansas. They are just playing their music and changing the lyrics so stupid people can buy their CD's.

Terrible parody. Who listens to this stuff? no onder only 100 people liked. This is a smack to the face to Kansas.

Their instrumentals are phenomenal! They have a high level of musicianship, and great theological points! Just discovered them, and plan to get ALL their CDs

The funny part about the cover is that the original song is about the prodigal son...

WHY would you do this

Rawk4Life

No, it wasn't. None of the members were Christians when releasing the album that Carry On Wayward Son appeared on. When Kerry Livegren became a Christian, he recorded one more album with Kansas and then left the band. However, other members of the band overtime became Christians as well, such as Dave Hope and John Elefante.
