I hope I have fairly coherently, even if not too succinctly, stated what I think about this clip, without losing the civility you & I both better appreciate. I think I was at least able to remain on-topic about the subjects of this video, offering some perspective without resorting to insults.

As for Miss Calloway, not as familiar with her history, but know she is very respected in the jazz community, and best-known for having sung & written the theme song of Fran Dresher's first television starring vehicle, the sitcom "The Nanny."

Liza would already have a higher-than-average chance of addiction from her mother's genes, besides the environmental factors of such inherent with show business careers. But even with diminished singing capability, Minnelli is still a better singer than most would dream of being.

Liza now jokes she's the daughter of "Dorothy," but like "The Tin Man" from the waist down. You have to hand it to Liza about being able to laugh through the pain. I seem to recall she endured some bad fall from a stage, which ruined her ability to dance as well, undoubtedly also led to a dependency on pain medication and relapse to addiction--a common problem for those with chemical dependencies.

In her prime, Minnelli could belt tunes out of the park as good as Calloway. It is only that Calloway has worked more on her vocal styling, whereas Liza, as a more versatile performer in the fashion of the old-school/vaudeville heritage (from her mother, Kay Thompson and other influences) didn't focus exclusively on music, also acted and used to be a good and trained (by Bob Fosse) dancer, before who knows how many spare parts' surgeries.

I agree. There is no need for people to be so disagreeable here about a video that is of a fun time and entertainment. It's not as if this was about a political subject, which always brings out the bile. Both these singers sound good together. Agreed that Miss Calloway is the better voice at the point of this performance. But I 'm sure she was honored to have Liza Minnelli sing with her, and the two were just having a good time singing songs they both love.

@calamtykel I was not referring to the person who first sang the song publically but rather to the person who popularized and "owned" the song for her entire career. So fuck you asshole.

@calamtykel no shit Sherlock. I was not referring to the first to sing it but rather to the person who popularized and "owned" the song! Fuck you!

@Dameednafla I agree with you but lets give Harold Arlen the credit for the song...
