What people don't know is "The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle" were the hottest live band in the United States after the war ended. They were "The Famous Carter Sisters" and had regular radio shows on 5 different radio stations from North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and Missouri. They were "all" stars (compared with "The Beatles" with the impact they made on music scene in the late 40's and their fans loved them.) They had 9000 boxtops sent in to a radio station from ONE appearance, and that was blazing a trail especially an all female band, before the WSM "The Grand Ole Opry" called them repeatedly to join the Opry and be the highest paid act in 1950. Anita Carter was a superstar in that ,they would get more cards and letters wanting her to sing solos. She was the baby and blessed with the voice of an angel. But Helen and Mother Maybelle had beautiful voices as well. They were a famous trio and sang beautiful trios (especially hymns). This group was a "Super group" They were all very famous. And in 1948 Mother Maybelle hired Chet Atkins and the 5 of them were very famous. They headlined the WSM Grand Ole Opry show and headlined for years. I have purchased the unedited recordings from their 1949 Radiozark recordings from the original Reel to Reel recordings that were never for sale. I absolutely "Love" these gals. They rocked way before Rock and Roll was invented. Anita was happy to be "one of the band". Her voice is the most beautiful our country has ever heard and that's why she was dubbed "The Appalachian Angel" June Carter could sing as good as Kitty Wells and Wanda Jackson and they are all great!
