Dude I felt that exact same way until I found a non-American band that mixed Dubstep and metal. It was kinda cool and then I appreciated it more (though in their country it's considered popular music).

It's the kind of music I aspire to write, only on piano/synth instead of guitar. It's rather sad that nobody does it anymore, because it's such beautiful stuff that really contains a complexity and depth to it that commercial music never had come the 60s.

I normally hate this kind of music. It ends up sounding like noise. But he's an amazing songwriter, it comes out very melodic.
