I don't know why a lot of people are saying the video doesn't fit with the song, it actually helped me understand better! My theory is that it is about a mother who has some type of mental illness (depression I'm guessing or anxiety disorder as some have theorized) and that is making it hard on her children so not only does she have no discipline for their behavior, they are getting progressively more out of control and strange. But in her imagination or daydreams, she is a queen, a figure loved by all and looked up to, exactly the opposite of what she truly is.Just a theory, I hope it is not Ms. Olsen's true mother!!

Really nice song, like it. However, a certain part of the music video made me think i was watching Red Tube. Face, white stuff...

Production on this song is incredible, the reverb used on Angel's voice is simply beautiful.

Anyone else notice how similar this song (especially the outtake) is to Brian Eno's An Ending (Ascent)?

This song, especially from 2:30 on, gives me chills all over. Songs that shake you to the core like this are few and far between.

Naked souls dance around a we-gurous fire...bordeaux flames licks the air... there's ghosts and spirits curious , half-hidden by surrounding trees... this babe can't see the black of the night....it's coming...without any fuss, without orchestras but with a coat of stars I Wonder if miss Angel Olsen wrote this song under some kind of influences... i mean in the "mind expanding" meaning of the word ? Taboos are made for the Bayous...Vintage for the VInylage This is the Spirit of the Age

This is a beautiful song and video! I enjoy the interpretations, and different ways of looking at it. It's so good to share and be inspired enough to write about it. What I got from it was that Angel (or her character) is imagining herself as this beautiful and regal figure. Like an art piece in a museum. Loved and actualized, not for living or even being pleasant - but just for being there. But even that regal figure isn't happy or even "real". Meanwhile the children seem to be so effortlessly enjoying themselves, and in their same reality she becomes like a prop for them to play with because she's so absent in her own real life. It's also ironic because the character's fantasy about being this other legendary museum figure won't even give her what she wants (she wants the light, what the children have) as she is already very much like her without the fancy clothes etc.. The children provide the contrast for her not even seeing whats right in front of her. She's totally pre-occupied with an empty ness. Great Job!!

The over production steals some of the beauty from her voice. Shame. Beautiful song all the same, but a shame.

Oh this is painfully beautiful, don't understand the negative comments. The song lingers on as well as the images, remind me Tarkovsky movies. I'm glad she doesn't try to do "normal" stuff and always step out the comfort zone.
