Recorded in 1959 when Andy Williams was 32 years old. The album "Lonely Street" is concept album much like Frank Sinatra's "Only the Lonely" in that it is filled with bleak torch songs. However, unlike the Sinatra record, this LP is a very bluesy and jazzy. The original liner notes stated that the tracks were hand picked by Williams himself, and were among his all-time favorite songs.

LONELY STREET

Where's this place called "Lonely Street?"

I'm looking for that lonely street

I've got a sad. sad tale to tell

I need a place to go and weep

Where's this place called Lonely Street?

A place where there's just loneliness

Where dim lights bring forgetfulness

Where broken dreams and mem'ries meet

Where's this place called Lonely Street?

Perhaps upon that Lonely Street

There's someone such as I

Who came to bury broken dreams

And watch an old love die.

A place where there's just loneliness

Where dim lights bring forgetfulness

Where broken dreams and mem'ries meet

Where's this place called Lonely Street?

Where's this place called Lonely Street?

To me, this is the loneliness that we all feel; even when we think we have met the love of our lives, there is still something missing and we are still lonely and still searching. I feel we are still searching for that "soul mate" which we will never find in this world.Just a thought. pat

Thank you so much for sharing this. I studied with John Abate in Gainesville Florida in the late 60's/early 70's. He and the pianist had quite a bit to do with this album and arrangements. After all these years I get to hear him play again. I never have had any of his recordings.

I feel like I've been lonely all my life. This song kind of tells my life story. I was lonely even before I met my first love, but I have now met the Love of my Life which is Jesus Christ and He will never leave me nor forsake me, unlike humankind. Thank you, Jesus

Far better voice and delivery than Sinatra. Too much was made years ago in the news media regarding his ex-wife and his drinking, which was his own personal business. And too little was made of what the man could actually do. My only complaint was that he ever recorded 'Moon River'......I always hated that song no matter who did it.
